*I believe that women are inherently strong.*
Our bodies are designed for birthing, arguably the most intense experience that the human body can endure. That being said, every woman’s body is different; therefore, there is a nearly infinite range of what can be considered “normal”.
The importance of accepting and celebrating your variation of “normal” cannot be overemphasized. Cultivating a positive attitude towards your body and your body’s capabilities is vital to allowing yourself to trust the process of pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
*I believe in a holistic approach to birthing.*
Just as the process of birth is not merely a physical one, so also, support of the laboring woman cannot be limited to any one certain birthing technique, method, or philosophy. Birth should be a fluid experience in which the woman is constantly surrounded by loving care, unafraid and uninhibited, equipped to follow her body’s cues without fear of judgment or cynicism.
Holistic birthing begins long before labor commences as the woman and her birthing partner(s) prepare themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for this arduous yet rewarding event.
*I believe that knowledge is power.*
If you are uninformed about your options, you have no options. In order to advocate for the birth that you want, it is crucial that you are equipped with the knowledge to defend your decisions. Educating yourself with evidence-based information is crucial to making informed decisions and becoming a strong advocate for the birth experience that you desire.
When you are surrounded by loving support, equipped with evidence-based knowledge, and prepared mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally for the process of birth, you can accomplish anything.
